Charlie & Drew – Beautifully rustic Welsh farm wedding

Back in July last year I headed over to deepest Mid Wales for Charlie and Drew’s special day.

Charlie and Drew are pretty laid back folks, their big day perfectly reflected their personalities and as a documentary wedding photographer it was a dream to cover. From a very relaxed church service, to the reception in Charlie’s family farm, right through the pig racing, their day was fun, emotional and quirky all rolled into one.

The day started off with me driving through the July summer sun to Charlie’s parents farm just outside Brecon. Set in beautiful Welsh countryside this was a perfect location for a wedding, with rolling hills as the backdrop and red kites soaring over head, idyllic doesn’t quite cover it! I spent an hour or so before the ceremony covering the final preparations, which included tarting up probably the best wedding car I’ve ever encountered…a battered Ford Focus estate, loved it!

I then made my way over to St Cadmarch in Llangammarch for the wedding. I did my usual thing of introducing myself to the vicar, who proceeded to tell me to do what I wanted, so refreshing in this day in age, where more and more vicars get quite nervous of over-zealous photographers. The ceremony flew past in a flurry of traditional Welsh hymns, fun, laughter and off course the customary I do’s!

Once the ceremony was all done and dusted it was back to the farm for drinks, canapés, speeches and pig racing! Yeah, that was a first for me as well, the little porkers seemed to be enjoying themselves and with bets being placed for fastest pig, guests and pigs were in good spirits, even if the Welsh weather did throw in a bit of a curve ball with some of it’s finest precipitation!

Charlie and Drew were kind enough to leave me some kind words after receiving their images.

Several of the guests commented how unobtrusive you were taking pictures, and it’s obvious from the shots that no one felt uncomfortable!”
