Peak wedding season is here, a total of 8 weddings in 3 weeks lay ahead of me and thoughts of winter weddings seem long past. Just two days after Christmas last year saw me travel to the Coldra Court Hotel in Newport, Wales as the wedding photographer for Emma and Paul’s marriage.
I love a good winter wedding, there’s just something about the light and the ambience of this time of year that gives a wedding a real cosy, intimate feel. All the guests and wedding party were in great spirits following the festive season, making for a thoroughly great day.
Emma & Paul fully embraced my style of wedding photojournalism and didn’t have a single formal group photo, whilst group photos are sometimes necessary, not having them definitely improves the overall flow of the day and results in a truly relaxed and authentic collection of images. Not having to interrupt a wedding day to take group shots definitely gets my thumbs up. It allows the day to flow naturally and makes for a more relaxed day for guests and families alike.
Their wedding had everything, tears, the downing of shots in the bar, uncontrolled laughter and a whole lot more to boot. I was made to feel right at home by all of their wonderful family and friends. I really did not want to go home at the end having been so warmly accepted as part of the day. For me this is very important, I never want to be seen as an inconvenience at a wedding, I want to be seen as a guest and almost ignored. That’s how I work best, almost like another guest with a nice camera. It allows me to pick up on subtle conversations between groups of people, predicting when moments that are photographic gold occur.
Lovely work. So many great shots here.
